Haleakala SolarHaleakala Solar was founded by James Whitcomb in 1977 and since then has installed more 8,000 solar hot water and solar electric systems (PV) on 6 of the Hawaiian Islands. With almost 35 years of service and customer satisfaction the company has no consumer complaints. Haleakala is the leading contractor on Maui and was featured in the 1987 book ÒThe New Solar Electric HomeÓ. Whitcomb has an autographed copy from the writer for his contributions to the success of the book. Whitcomb, who received recognition from Lt. Governor Duke Aiona in 2009 for his solar industry achievements, Chief Designer Gary Olsen, Operations Manager Matthew Enos, and Vice President Lambert Hoopii collectively have over 100 years of solar experience.
Haleakala Solar is committed to energy savings, quality workmanship, as well as excellent customer satisfaction and service. Each year the installed base of HaleakalaÕs solar systems prevent over 39 million pounds of carbon dioxide from polluting the air as well as saving its customers over $7 million a year in energy costs. This installed base of solar systems saves the importing and burning of more than 64,000 barrels of oil each year. The company is rapidly expanding and in 2011 opened their latest showroom on Oahu. The original showroom is located in the Maui Mall on the island of Maui.
